For 75 years, the Costume Institute’s annual Met Gala has been a cause for celebration, always reaching new heights of unbridled merriment thanks in large part to the bold-faced names in attendance and their seemingly boundless imagination when it comes to their ensembles—or in most casesplural—in honor of the year’s selected theme.

Last night’s revelry was no exception. With this year calling for an homage to Karl Lagerfeld, there was no shortage of Chanel or Chanel-inspired ensembles. Chloe Fineman clutched a rhinestone feline minaudière in an homage to Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette; Florence Pugh’s minidress came topped with a stiff collar à la Karl, as did Priyanka Chopra’s red Valentino look. Partygoer Jenna Ortega, meanwhile, accessorized with a signature black grosgrain bow.

Throughout the evening, in a sort of Studio 54-inspired variety show, a constant flow of entertainment in varied forms kept the party moving, with cones of french fries and hamburgers making the rounds, a corner banquette gossip session between Eilish and Lizzo, and Coco Rocha performing an impromptu dance number in a shimmering gold column dress and sky-high tousled hair, all before reaching a fever pitch once Janelle Monae, wearing a pair of equally sky-high Thom Browne wedge heels and a look...
