At new La Bodega Rotisserie in Oak Cliff, a chef’s daydream becomes brick-and-mortar

The new little grab-and-go restaurant serves a Mediterranean menu where roast chickens and sardines are front and center.8:57 AM on Jul 27, 2022 CDT

La Bodega Rotisserie and Goods, the general idea of it at least, lived in McDaniel’s head for years as a “maybe one day” dream. It wasn’t until she spent time working at an Oak Cliff co-working space on a temporary marketing job that she thought maybe she should actually open her own restaurant. She saw a hole in the market for quick lunch spots, and figured her idea of a rotisserie chicken concept would work.

The menu consists of seven salad options and four sandwiches with side options of fries and a white bean hummus that is layered with flavor from lemon and za’atar. Chicken, sardines, hard-boiled egg, and tuna can be added to any menu item.McDaniel says while the restaurant is clearly chicken-centric, she sees it more as a salad spot than anything. Salads, after all, are her most favorite food, and serving really good ones was a top priority when she set out to open her own place.

Her hope is that La Bodega, which she designed to withstand unforeseen challenges like another pandemic, becomes an Oak Cliff mainstay.
