‘At least lift the legislation’: Peter McGauran calls on Labor to lift nuclear ban
Bondi Partners Senior Advisor Peter McGauran has called on the Albanese government to “at least lift the legislation” banning the construction of a nuclear power plant because there is a “new generation” of small modular reactors.
The Coalition has flagged Australia could have a nuclear power industry within a decade if it wins the next election. Shadow Energy Minister Ted O'Brien claimed the Coalition was engaging with experts who said it could be achieved in the timeframe. “If the government was serious, they would join with the Liberal Opposition and pass it through both houses.“We are in a new generation of small modular reactors … and young people won’t be told they’re not allowed to consider a scientific or climate issue.”
