“I remember a time when we had leadership in this state that actually cared about everybody,” said Castro, who recalled having met Richards when he was a teenager.Castro isn’t running for office this year, but remains a top draw among Democratic activists because of his 2020 presidential run and his tenure as former President Barack Obama’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
During the Republican Party of Texas Convention in Houston in June, Abbott made clear he’s confident that the strong Texas economy under his watch coupled with the surge of migration at the border will help him defeat O’Rourke, who he has tried to tie to Biden at every chance.
