The ranking represents immense progress for the 21-year-old. Matthews arrived on the Atascocita campus as a short and scrawny kid who had coaches wondering what he was going to do in football and baseball. Matthews has met with every MLB team. Some have visited the Matthews’ residence in Atascocita to get to know the member of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American second-team.
His only workout was for the Houston Astros. Getting a call from the hometown team on draft day wouldn’t bother Matthews at all.
