Aubrey Plaza has deactivated her Instagram account, which had over five million followers, just over a week after the death of her husband, indie filmmaker Jeff Baena . Baena, 47, was known for his work on films including Life After Beth, Joshy, The Little Hours, and Spin Me Round, all of which featured Plaza. His body was found by his assistant at his Los Angeles home on Friday, January 3rd, with authorities treating his death as a suspected suicide.
Plaza, 40, and Baena were together for more than a decade, having started their relationship in 2011 and then marrying in 2021. The couple, known for their privacy, only announced their marriage months after an intimate backyard wedding. 'So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italia to cause some more trouble,' Plaza wrote in a past Instagram post, referencing Spin Me Round. However, attempts to access Plaza’s Instagram account now show messages such as 'page not found' or 'no photos yet', indicating that she has deactivated the platform. The White Lotus star, who had been scheduled to present at the Golden Globes on January 5th, did not attend the event following Baena’s death. A screenshot of Aubrey Plaza's Instagram account. 'We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time,' the statement, shared on behalf of the Baena and Stern families, read. A third added, 'Honestly, I’m glad she’s taking time for herself and a break from social media. I just hope she is surrounded by loved ones and gets all the support she needs.' The family has requested privacy as they grieve. Meanwhile, four days after Baena’s death, multiple wildfires erupted across Los Angeles and continue to burn across the region. At this stage, it's understood that the home Plaza and Baena shared in the suburb of Los Feliz remains safe. • Kids Helpline: 1800 55 180
