Australian researchers say they have developed a faster and more accurate test for preeclampsia, a potentially fatal condition which can happen during pregnancy. 9News
The new rapid test for preeclampsia was created through research at The University of Technology Sydney and detects specific biomarkers present in the blood plasma of women with preeclampsia.
Pregnant women with preeclampsia often have high blood pressure, protein in their urine and severe swelling. "We believe this test has the potential to revolutionise the way preeclampsia is diagnosed and managed," she said. The study found the new rapid test had a sensitivity of 90.5 per cent, compared to 73.7 per cent for the most up-to-date method currently available.
