Aussie rock stars' new Byron Bay Mecca
Their music regularly appears in Triple J’s Hottest 100.
It was the 2020 pandemic that appears to have triggered a muso buying burst, headlined when Toni Watson, who sings as Tones and I, when sheIn an extraordinary return for Watson who had been a Byron Bay busker just two years prior, her initial $3.3m offer secured two homes on the same holding, Sky Lodge and Starr Cottage.
Now the singer’s investment company, Johnny Run Away Pty Ltd – also the title of her debut single and coming out anthem – has spent $2.15m on a nearby three-bedroom, Queenslander-style weatherboard house. It was sold by Elizabeth Poynton.Natalie Bassingthwaighte and her husband, musician Cameron McGlinchey, opted for the hinterland paying $2.15m at Ewingsdale in 2020 after selling in Melbourne’s Brighton for $4m.
The keen surfer and guitarist Luke Kilpatrick from local heavy metal band Parkway Drive, paid $2.29m at Broken Head in 2020, while former model and DJ Kate Elsworth and her electro musician husband, Nicolas Blistene spent $1.25m on a Byron townhouse. Professional surfer and Goons of Doom musician Ozzie Wright also relocated to Byron Bay with his wife Mylee in 2018 from Newport.Ocean Alley’s new album Low Altitute Living is on the way.
