Football: The Socceroos have named an extended 25-man squad for their World Cup Qualifiers against Lebanon.

Socceroos name squad for WC Qualifiers | 00:22It’s been two years since Adam Taggart last played for the Socceroos and it’s two years until the next World Cup, so the recalled striker has a narrow focus on simply performing against Lebanon in Sydney on Thursday, freed up by the comforts of home.

“It’s always been something at the back of my mind,” he said of a return to the international set-up, having last played for the Socceroos in September 2022. Taggart said the glut of games he played in Asia took its toll and the load impeded his chances of being fit at the right times for Arnold to look his way.

“That was always the biggest challenge and you know when I was fit I seem to be doing all right, but that was always the biggest challenge and has been a big challenge for me my whole career. Taggart also knows injuries to others have opened the door for him and a lot can happen between now and the 2026 World Cup when it comes to selection.
