The 23-year-old is the second-fastest Australian of all time, behind Patrick Johnson (9.93 in 2003), and on Saturday night he ran the fastest time ever of any Australian at an Olympic Games. 9News

Browning clocked a personal best of 10.01 and is now set to compete in the semi-finals just after 8pm on Sunday , after setting the sixth-fastest time of the heats.

The 23-year-old is the second-fastest Australian of all time, behind Patrick Johnson , and on Saturday night he ran the fastest time ever of any Australian at an Olympic Games. "I was saying to the other guys, when you're in lane one you don't get a personalised introduction and I was definitely trying too hard … I don't think I helped my Stawell handicap for next year," Browning laughed.

"I had a look at the start list when the heat came out and I thought, 'Geez, I've probably got one of the stiffest heats'. But you'd rather do it the hard way … because it's much more satisfying that way. And you've got to front up to everybody at some point anyway."Browning has been hyped up in the media as a genuine chance to make the final, but the New South Welshman has greater ambitions than that.
