Extreme heat is expected to impact several states and territories this week, aggravating fire danger. 9News

Sydney's Western suburbs will experience the most extreme conditions with a top of 42 forecast for Penrith on Tuesday followed by 29 degrees on Wednesday.

"I cannot stress strongly enough to motorists how dangerous it can be for children or pets to be left unattended in a vehicle. Not only is it dangerous, it can be deadly," he said. High temperatures across the Hunter tomorrow have prompted Ausgrid to cancelled planned power outages which had been scheduled for maintenance work.

"For Perth, the heat will build and build over the week and they may not get a reprieve until the weekend or even the weekend after that," said meteorologist from Weatherzone Craig Macintosh. Last week, Perth registered its earliest four-day spell of days over 37 degrees in 120 years of records.
