Visitors at Australia's largest and most popular ski resort have been left frustrated after arriving to bare, grassy snow slopes over the weekend, despite August usually being the prime time for winter sports.
Avid skiers and snowboarders were met with discontent upon arriving to extremely patchy cover at Perisher Ski Resort, in what is usually the best time for snow activities Down Under.
The sprawling ski resort was pictured with large areas of grass and mud on its hills, conditions far from ideal for the two sports. Several visitors took to social media lamenting the irregular landscape, with a warmer-than-average winter leaving Australia’s winter wonderland in dire straits. Photos shared on a Facebook group showed bare slopes at Smiggin Holes, with just one thin strip of visible snow, received many disappointed comments, including from one veteran skier claiming he had never seen conditions of the kind.Several disappointed visitors took to social media to share their frustrations on the condition. Picture: Facebook“I always feel for the people that booked months ago and paid a lot of money,” another said.
“I am 62, have been skiing on and off since I was a kid and while I’ve been there in pretty ordinary conditions, don’t remember it ever being this bad in August,” a third remarked.Selwyn ski resort is closed, and itâs start of peak season. Perisher ski resort now selling tickets at 50% off due to lack of cover. In peak snow season. Very sad and financially devastating.
