Aussies face ‘awfully tough’ Davis Cup task after big Demon blow

Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt has backed his team to come through an “awfully tough group ” without top-ranked Alex de Minaur as they attempt to advance to November’s knockout finals.

“Alex has done some incredible stuff in Davis Cup over the last three or four years now,” Hewitt said ahead of the opening clash with France. “They’ve all had stellar careers this year on a personal note as well some massive highlights. I expect us to go out there and compete hard and play well, and I think we’re a good shot.

After taking on France, Australia will play Czech Republic on Thursday before facing Carlos Alcaraz’s Spain on Sunday.
