King Charles III’s coronation service has been modernised to reflect the King’s beliefs.
Australians watching the coronation – and millions of other Commonwealth citizens – will be asked to cry out and swear allegiance to the King next week, with the public given an active role in the ancient ceremony for the first time in history.
A souvenir collectible mug marking the Coronation of King Charles III, which will take place on May 6.In a significant break with tradition, the two-hour ceremony on May 6 will feature a series of new additions that reflect the King’s deep belief in promoting unity between different faiths and communities.
For the first time female clergy will also take part in the coronation, with The Right Rev Dame Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London, to read from the Gospel of St Luke. Two other female bishops will assist the Archbishop of Canterbury, The Most Rev Justin Welby, in administering communion to the newly crowned King and Queen Consort.
