The days of Australians heading to the United Kingdom for a holiday without needing permission to travel to the country are about to end.
The United Kingdom 's new travel rules for Australians take effect from January 8, with trips to the country becoming more expensive.
"You must apply for an ETA before you travel to the UK. You can travel to the UK while waiting for a decision," the UK government states. The application process involves uploading or taking photos of a person's passport and their face but travel details do not need to be entered. An individual's ETA will last for two years, covering multiple visits during that time. However, if a person receives a new passport within the two years, they will need a new ETA.
