Andrew Wilkie and George Christensen are calling for the United Kingdom to block attempts to extradite Julian Assange to the US.

The Australian MPs have travelled to Belmarsh Prison in a privately funded trip to visit the Wikileaks founder as he prepares for an extradition hearing next week.

Assange is facing 18 charges,17 under the espionage act for conspiracy to receive, obtain and disclose classified information. Mr Wilkie said the Australian government was doing "bugger all" to help Assange. Image: Getty
