Australia will acquire a new MQ-4C Triton drone as part of a more than $1.5 billion investment in the country's maritime patrol aircraft fleet.
The drone, which will cost about $310 million, is the fourth such model purchased by Defence, with the government expecting the first aircraft to be delivered to Australia next year.
"The Albanese Government is taking steps to ensure Australia has one of the most advanced maritime patrol and response aircraft fleets in the world," Mr Conroy said in a statement. The MQ-4C Triton is being manufactured by American aerospace company Northrop Grumman Corporation and is being acquired by the Australian Defence Force in cooperation with the United States Navy.
