Breaking: Health Minister Martin Foley and CHO Brett Sutton are speaking after Victoria recorded 12 cases and NSW asked for other states' Pfizer allocations.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the potential option of delaying second doses of the Pfizer vaccine in NSW to increase the number of people who have received at least one dose was a “huge, huge administrative task”.
“It is creating havoc for us, but if that is what we are being handed by our friends in the other states and in the Commonwealth, then we have to do what we have to do.”NSW Police issued 246 penalty notices of $1000 each in the last 24 hours. “The hard part for everyone to get their head around is the fact that this Delta strain is so transmissible, that people will quite consciously invite people into their house and each and every one of those people then returns to their home with the bright prospect of infecting everyone in their household.”
“[NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry] Chant gave the crisis cabinet very strong advice that she considered what we were going through here in NSW is a national emergency. By that, what she was really saying was we need the help that other states and territories could possibly give us,” Mr Hazzard said on Saturday morning.“We need the Pfizer that they may have that they don’t have such a great need for at the present time.
“I just want to emphasise that from my point of view it is with disappointment that I heard some of the responses from leaders from other states.”NSW has recorded 163 new locally acquired cases in the latest reporting period, the highest daily tally of the latest outbreak.“What it is telling us is we have a continuing and growing problem, particularly in south-west and western Sydney,” NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.
Six people have died in the latest outbreak, including a man in his 80s who will be counted in today’s figures.
