Premier Daniel Andrews has defended the timing of regional Victoria’s lockdown with wastewater tests showing that COVID-19 fragments were detected in Shepparton a week ago.Mr Andrews also said he didn’t believe in locking down just one part of regional Victoria and leaving the rest open.
He said that there was no advice for him to take that step, however he did not rule out going further with even stricter measures. Mr Hazzard said NSW is in a “very serious situation” with a stretched hospital system, and medical staff are having their lives put in a precarious position as a result of people who are “deliberately not complying with what they have been asked to do”.
Thousands are expected to join the protest, which organisers have said will begin at 12pm at the corner of Exhibition and Bourke Streets.Justin McManus Residents in those areas, and the eastern suburbs, have been urged to get tested with even the mildest symptoms.Dr Gale said the “vast majority” of people in the community are doing the right thing, but there remains a small handful of people who are not doing the right thing.
A record number of COVID tests – 41,464 – were processed on Friday, along with 56,843 vaccinations. More than 150,000 vaccination bookings were made. Genomic testing matched that case to a New Zealander traveller in quarantine after returning from Sydney.The two clusters that have grown significantly overnight are those in Broadmeadows and Shepparton.
We’re also recommending not mandating but recommending that children of primary school age, also wear a mask, in indoor areas.
