Despite a shaky start that left them on 89-5, hosts chase down 189 after Australians imploded in Mumbai from 129-2
Australians imploded in Mumbai from 129-2India have overcome a scintillating spell from Mitchell Starc to post a five-wicket win over Australia in the series-opening one-day international clash in Mumbai.
In reply, India were in all sorts of trouble at 39-4 and 83-5 after Starc and Marcus Stoinis tore through the top and middle order. But a 108-run stand between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja steered India to victory with 61 balls to spare. Shubman Gill, who made 20, was on two when he was dropped by wicketkeeper Josh Inglis off the bowling of Starc. When stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya hooked Stoinis to Cameron Green in the deep, India were 83-5 and looking shaky.
But Marsh’s departure in the 20th over resulted in a stunning collapse of as Australia slipped from 129-2 to be all out in 35.4 overs.
