The Morrison government will replace its entire fleet of army and navy helicopters with American Black Hawks and Seahawks.
Defence Minister Peter Dutton informed Airbus of the government’s decision to scrap all 47 Taipan helicopters this week.
The aircraft, previously described as an “advanced” model by the Defence Force, is now considered a trouble-plagued disaster. An application has been made to the US to buy up to 40 Black Hawks for the army and 12 Seahawks for the navy in a move expected to cost $7 billion.
