More than 60 per cent of the visitor visa applications submitted by Palestinians since Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel have been rejected, the Department of Home Affairs has confirmed.

Australia has rejected 60 per cent of the visitor visa applications from Palestinians since October 7, Home Affairs officials reveal

Greens Senator David Shoebridge said the rise in the number of Palestinian visitor visa rejections was a “massive increase” of approximately 2,784 since March. The United Nations has estimated there are more than 1.7 million people displaced by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Mr Shoebridge said Palestinians should not have to “falsely assert they are a tourist” and called for the same deal for Gazans as was made for Ukrainians.
