National Australia bank chief executive Ross McEwan has warned the Albanese government’s multi-employer bargaining could risk undermining competition and says the enterprise system needs simplification, not more layers.

“Different rates for different groups, age groups, to different hours that they work, weekends. You try and run with those as a small business, it’s very complicated. No wonder we’re all making mistakes. McEwan also flagged concerns that multi-employer bargaining roping in businesses across the same sector could hurt competition.“And even at our own situation – its looks like we’re not going to be caught up with it, which is a good thing – we’ve got an offer on the table for our colleagues at the moment. It’s between 4.5 and 5 per cent. And somebody in the industry’s just settled for 3 to 4 per cent.
