WATCH LIVE: Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas are making an announcement
National cabinet discussed cutting the COVID-19 isolation from seven days down to five when it met on Saturday, but Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the clear medical advice is “now is certainly not the time” as infections continue to rise across Australia.
ACT Minister for Emissions Reduction Shane Rattenbury will announce a target of 80 to 90 per cent of new light vehicle sales being zero-emission vehicles by 2030 in a strategy report later this week. The strategy will also include a commitment to begin to phase out light internal combustion engine vehicles from 2035 and set out new incentives and programs designed to accelerate the transition to zero emissions vehicles and support the community in making this shift.
“My condolences and love for the family and workmates of the firefighter who has died tonight while working to put out the blaze in Ferreruela de Tabara. Words aren’t enough to thank those who fight in the fire front without rest,” he wrote. As mentioned earlier this morning, Perrottet says isolation rules should be reconsidered. Some want to see the isolation period drop from a full week to five days.Meanwhile, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is also in favour of a review of how long people with coronavirus have to isolate – but has warned of “unbearable pressure” on healthcare workers.
“If we suddenly said, look, [isolating] is really inconvenient and it’s a pain and we’re not going to do that any more, then whatever cases we had today ... that would be times 10. Returning to federal politics, and one of the issues that has been bubbling along for the past couple of days is the government’s plan to legislate a 43 per cent emissions reduction target by 2030.
