ACTU president Michele O’Neil says no other unions have told her they plan to leave the ACTU, after the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union voted to disaffiliate yesterday.Speaking on ABC Radio National, O’Neil said she was regularly talking to all union members of the ACTU and said the disgraced CFMEU does not represent the broader union movement.
“I haven’t had any other unions threatening to quit … we need to face up to what has been happening in one union and really deal with the fact that individual leaders failed to act, despite the fact that the ACTU and the union movement as a whole, urged them to do so,” she said.Asked about former CFMEU leader John Setka facing the prospect of police action over potentially “unlawful” appearances on large state government work sites, O’Neil dismissed him of having influence.
