A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister crashed on Sunday as it was crossing mountainous terrain in heavy fog on the way back from a visit to the border with Azerbaijan.One government official told Reuters that the lives of Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were “at risk” following what was variously described as a “crash” and a “hard landing”.

“We are still hopeful but information coming from the crash site is very concerning,” said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.Another official told state TV that contact had been made with one passenger and also with a crew member, but no further details were available on the condition of the occupants.Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi told state TV that rescue teams were having trouble reaching the site due to difficult weather and terrain.
