Another two cases were already in quarantine, and one was a person who returned to the Top End on a repatriation flight from Singapore. Ms Manison said there was one additional potential positive case in a resident from the remote community of Binjari, who “did the right thing and got tested yesterday” after visiting Katherine. They were now in isolation and would be tested again.

There were 1758 COVID-19 tests conducted in the Top End yesterday and 193 close contacts had been identified from the confirmed cases. That number was likely to “sharply rise in the next few days”, Ms Manison said.The Northern Territory’s Acting Chief Minister Nicole Manison, Chief Health Officer Dr Hugh Heggie and Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker will provide a COVID-19 update at about 2.30pm AEDT.
