The case for the divestment of the supermarket duopoly has been one of the rare examples where there’s agreement between the Nationals and the Greens, with Nationals senators supporting a Greens motion in the Senate yesterday.In a politics panel on Today, Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce and Greens senator Nick McKim found that while they were at odds on energy, they agreed that Coles and Woolworths should be divested.
The Greens senator continued that the union of their parties has a history of making a big impact: “The Greens and the nationals getting together, well folks, last time that happened, we ended up with a royal commission into the banks that exposed some terrible, shonky behaviour from our big banking corporation,” McKim said“I’d just say, watch this space on divesting and breaking up the supermarket duopoly that are price gouging ordinary Australians.
