At Friday’s COVID update, Daniel Andrews said more COVID-19 testing sites had been stood up in the area. “The only major change that I would anticipate in terms of restrictions is if the health experts say there’s additional local government areas which need to go down into those areas of concern. Or, on the flip side, if a particular local government area responds well in terms of the case numbers, we can take those areas out.”“We have nothing left on the field, and this has to be an approach which is balanced by all the mental health concerns; all the other issues we need to balance,” she said.

He said Victoria was “right on the edge” of the COVID situation getting away from the state, and the Delta variant was so wildly infectious that it would “find every breach of every rule, and potentially spread because of that”.“I know everyone wants it to be over. I know that. I understand that, but it isn’t,” Mr Andrews said during Friday’s COVID update.

Mr Andrews added that 15 people were in hospital in Victoria with COVID, six were in the intensive care unit and one person was on a ventilator.Australia will commit about $5 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ appeal to assist those trying to leave Afghanistan.
