The Bureau of Meteorology predicts the tropical low over the Indian Ocean to the northwest of Derby will strengthen into a category-one cyclone this afternoon. At category-four strength, the storm is likely to lead to buildings being damaged and widespread power failures.Meanwhile, Transport Workers Union waste workers are striking for 24 hours across NSW and the ACT today.this morning it was the fifth time they were acting this year, and it was to ensure workers had job security.The workers will not collect bins across the City of Sydney, Randwick, or pick up commercial waste at Erskine Park depot in Canberra or hospital waste at Silverwater, he said.
“So on those two fronts, there’s massive concern, obviously. It’s not our choice. This is where we’ve been put,” he said.
