On-demand food delivery platforms have united to caution the Albanese government over its plans to set minimum pay and conditions for the gig economy, warning the recent collapse of Deliveroo shows the risks of “commercially unsustainable” regulation.
UberEats general manager Bec Nyst says it’s “imperative new legislation preserves the rights of gig workers to earn on their own terms”.Blunt regulation, they warned, would harm consumers, workers, small businesses and create a reputation for Australia as a “tech unfriendly” place to invest.
