Australia Post has been ordered to pay a Melbourne couple more than $3000 after repeatedly failing to deliver parcels to their home during the pandemic, instead leaving them at the local post office.
Some parcels were left at the front door without their doorbell being rung, while others were flung up the external stairs to the couple’s front door.spent half an hour every week attending their local post office to collect parcels that Australia Post failed to deliver. The driver, who had just handed Mr Short a parcel belonging to him, snatched it off him, the tribunal found.Mr Short grabbed his parcel off the driver and then lost his temper, yelling at the driver “get the f--- off my property”, according to the tribunal.
“I find that Australia Post stopped deliveries of parcels to their residence due to Mr Short telling the driver that he had made a formal complaint to Australia Post regarding the driver failing to deliver parcels to the front door. “It’s not about the money,” he said. “That’s not the issue. These people are paid to do a job, and if you say your service is to knock on a door then you need to knock on the door.”
