Australia’s historic first Test match against Afghanistan this summer is officially off | ChrisBarrett_

Australia’s historic first Test match against Afghanistan this summer is officially off.

It has now formally been cancelled for this season. Sources say the plan is for the Test to instead be staged following next year’s Ashes series, most likely in Hobart in February 2022.Three one-day internationals between Australia and New Zealand that were to close out the home summer have also been postponed for a year, with the prospect of the Black Caps having to isolate for two weeks either side of the Tasman not deemed feasible for such a short tour.

“[CA] are requesting for a day-night Test but it will be our first experience so we are not happy with that,”Afghanistan have been playing ODI cricket since 2009.A series of setbacks associated with COVID-19 ultimately cruelled what would have been a memorable occasion.
