In a challenging year for building, the 2022 Houses Awards saw one home winning a record-breaking four categories
Main image: The renovated Victorian terrace in Melbourne’s Carlton North, Autumn House by Studio Bright, picked up nods for House Alteration and Addition Over 200m2 and for Garden and Landscaping; was a joint winner in House in a Heritage Context; and was named Australia’s House of the Year.

Photograph: Rory GardinerKempton noted this year’s entries faced ‘increasingly complex challenges of cost and climate’, but said the jury was particularly impressed by the number of dwellings that met those challenges, alongside ‘inventive responses to constrained urban sites’.
