Australia's coronavirus mortality is lower than some countries with half our population.

Australia's coronavirus mortality is lower than some countries with half our population, the Prime Minister has said.Australia has seen fewer coronavirus-related deaths than European countries with smaller populationsThe mortality compared to population size in the United States is 50 times higher than AustraliaHe said while the number of deaths locally was"never good", compared to other countries it fared well.

"As sad as that is for those families, let's not forget that in countries that are smaller than Australia, like Belgium, 6,262 people have died," Mr Morrison said.According to the government data from each country, Belgium has a population of 11.4 million people, The Netherlands 17.3 million and Sweden 10.3 million — compared to Australia's population of around 25.6 million people.

While those European countries may have smaller populations than Australia, their population density is considerably higher. Data from The World Bank shows Australia's average population density, measured in people per square kilometre of land, is currently 3 but is much higher in the capital cities.
