The Ladies League, located on nightlife hotspot Oxford Street in Sydney ’s Darlinghurst, aimed to shine a spotlight on women’s sport by playing matches from open till close.
on New Year’s Day, the first of its kind bar announced with a “heavy heart” it would not reopen its doors this year. While the bar “excelled” during Matildas, Sydney FC and grand final matches, it struggled outside of live games, flagging it was not unlike other hospitality venues suffering in “this economic climate”. Picture: Instagram “While we knew going in, cost of living pressures have impacted how patrons spend, this is something we wanted to do for women’s sport,” the statement said. “We knew we had a fantastic product on offer but unfortunately as a small business, we couldn’t hold on any longer to try any new approaches.Weâre celebrating the new season this Saturday with $16 Casamigos Margs all day & a complimentary drink at full time ofThe Ladies League said it hoped its closure would not discourage anyone from opening a venue following a similar concept in the future, adding the support it felt from the community “was amazing”. “It’s unfortunately a hard reality of how people are choosing to spend their money at this stage,” The Ladies League said.
