Anthony Albanese has faced questions about Australia's future in the Commonwealth amid a renewed push for the nation to become a republic.

"So, at some stage, I'm a republican, I think we will make that decision to have an Australian as our head of state."But we'll stay in the Commonwealth, it's an important part of our history. Mr Albanese earlier this month told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan a vote on whether to ditch being a constitutional monarchyHe is instead focusing on this year's referendum for constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the Voice to Parliament.
"I'm a republican. But I think that as Prime Minister, you've got to respect the institutions which are there," he told the Marty Sheargold Show.
