Opposing censorship was once a liberal project, now it’s a go to topic for populists and authoritarians. Those on the progressive side of politics once committed to pluralism and open debate have been tardy in defence, sometimes allowing self-righteous intolerance to also chill and silence debate. This collection deserves permanent display in a national institution – seeing the titles demonstrates just how foolish and futile the process was – and how Australia has matured.
