The Albanese government has secured a $7 billion deal with the United States to acquire state-of-the-art long-range missile weapons in a step to revolutionise the nation's defence capabilities.

“Australia faces the most complex geo-strategic environment since the Second World War," Mr Conroy said in a statement released on Tuesday morning. It is believed the SM-2 IIIC and SM6 are made of advanced technologies which"will greatly enhance the lethality and effectiveness" of the Navy ships in line with the National Defence Strategy.
In August, HMAS Sydney carried out a first-of-class firing of the SM-6 Extended Range Active Missile as part of Exercise ‘Pacific Dragon' 2024 in Hawaii.
