Boxing Day Test: South Africa in trouble as top order batsmen crumble before lunch
Two wickets in two balls shortly before lunch and suddenly the questions about the decision of Australian captain Pat Cummins to bowl first on a straw-coloured MCG wicket evaporated.
With him at the crease, South Africa always looked as though they were well in the match. Without him, they don’t. “Shane was a proud advocate of Test cricket and you only have to look around at all the fans who came out to the MCG in their floppy hats and zinc on Boxing Day to realise what a profound impact he had on the game.”
