Australia will take on Hong Kong in an Asia Cup qualifying game at 1:30pm , and Giddey is set to become the youngest Boomer to hit the floor since a 17-year-old Ben Simmons did so back in 2013.
Giddey landed in Brisbane on Tuesday morning for his first Boomers stint, jumping into a light practice session after the long flight from Chicago. The directive was always that Giddey would sit out the Boomers’ first game against New Zealand in order to rest, before entering the fray for the matchup with Hong Kong.
“A part of me was a bit nervous,” he said. “Coming into a senior men’s national team is a pretty rare thing for a 17-year-old to deal with, but also I was excited and keen to get into it and test myself.”This was Giddey’s first real taste of playing among professionals, and it’s something he’ll need to get used to quickly, thanks to his decision to bypass offers from the likes of Arizona, Colorado, and Baylor in order to play in the NBL.
