An army truck has smashed through the roof of a Queensland service station, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake, after a disastrous miscalculation by the driver. Photos from the scene show the roof of the Ampol service station partially collapsed, with two petrol bowsers also seemingly destroyed. A Queensland Police spokesperson said emergency services were called out to an incident involving a truck at a service station on the Bruce Highway at Sarina, south of Mackay, about 5.
The driver of the truck reportedly misjudged the height of the roof, crashing into it and causing much of the structure to collapse. The Australian Defence Force confirmed one of their trucks had been involved in the incident. “The vehicles were travelling from Brisbane to Townsville for Exercise Vigilant Scimitar,” an ADF spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au.
