Seriously Red is a joyful, candy-coloured confection with a touch of lemon about the joys and sorrows of show business.
, a candy-coloured confection with a touch of lemon about the joys and sorrows of show business, shoots us right back up there.
The screenplay is by Byrne’s friend Krew Boylan, who stars as Red, a high-spirited redhead who throws in her dull job in a real estate office to put on a curly blonde wig and go on the road as a Dolly impersonator, accompanied by her very own Kenny Rogers . There’s a theme here. Red must find herself after mislaying that self during a doomed attempt to become a duplicate of someone who already exists. In other words, she’s headed for an existential crisis. It sounds serious, but there are plenty of distractions as she gets to know her fellow members of Cannavale’s Copy Cat agency and we encounter the alternative Eltons, Madonnas, Freddie Mercurys and George Michaels who populate the scene.
