Jack Haig joins Cadel Evans as Australia's most successful rider at the Vuelta a España by finishing third in Spain, after recovering from a broken collarbone that stopped him from going to the Tokyo Olympics.

Spanish rider Enric Mas finished three minutes ahead of him, while Primož Roglič was a further 4:42 clear in winning his third straight Vuelta, continuing Slovenia's dominance of cycling's biggest races, with compatriot Tadej Pogačar having won the past two Tour de France titles. Another Australian, Rohan Dennis, joined Roglič on the podium in Tokyo, but this time it was Haig's turn on the bottom step of the dais.
"It's amazing to move to [his team] Bahrain Victorious and then having the crash at Le Tour, and come here with no expectations, and be third on the podium.
