a man and woman in their 60s were killed in the crash on Highway 84 on Friday evening near La Honda, a forested mountainous area about 50 kilometres south of San Francisco.

California Highway Patrol officer David LaRock told the paper the Australian man’s white BMW M4 collided with a Ford Taurus carrying four people on a blind turn while the BMW was travelling on the wrong side of road. The male back seat passenger in the Taurus was declared dead at the scene while the three other occupants were taken to Stanford Medical Centre. The Australian man was accidentally driving on the wrong side of the road.LaRock told the paper the Australian man had only recently entered the US, which led them to conclude he may have thought he was driving on the correct side of the road.

“[He] had a terrible car accident where he accidentally drove on the wrong side of the road. Two people have tragically passed away which [he] and our family are devastated about,” she said.“If anyone would be able to give an opinion of how you know [him] and his character so that his lawyers are able to use this in court, our family would be forever grateful,” she said. The Morning Edition newsletter is our guide to the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
