Rachael 'Raygun' Gunn, an Australian Olympic breakdancer, is seeking $10,000 in legal fees from the owner of a Sydney comedy club after they canceled a planned show titled 'Raygun'. Gunn's lawyers claimed the show infringed on her intellectual property, including her 'story, personal history, Olympic videos and choreography'. While the show's proceeds were intended for a women's shelter, it was ultimately shut down due to legal threats. Authors have since weighed in, stating that Gunn may struggle to enforce intellectual property rights over her name and dance moves in Australia.
Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael “Raygun” Gunn is demanding $10,000 in legal fees from the owner of a small Sydney comedy club that had planned to stage a show called, was canned at the last minute after promoter Anthony Skinner was hit with a legal letter claiming the show infringed Gunn’s intellectual property.Now it has been revealed that Gunn’s lawyers, Glebe-based 17 Degrees, are demanding at least $10,000 from Skinner in legal fees .
The letter also claims Gunn’s intellectual property includes her “story, personal history, Olympic videos and choreography”. “You will recognise this Olympic-level choreography is a complex sequence of moves and techniques of which our client is the creator and author,” it continued.this week, authors Sarah Hook, Marie Hadley and Vicki Huang said it was unlikely Gunn would be “able to enforce intellectual property over her name, her persona, and her dance moves”.
