Seven-time Australian Olympic team Chef de Mission Ian Chesterman has been elected as President of the Australian Olympic Committee replacing John Coates after 32 years.
The election was held after John Coates stepped down from the post during the week after serving as the AOC President for 32 years.

Chesterman's election will take him until the 2024 Paris Olympics meaning Stockwell could recontest the AOC leadership then. He was Chef de Mission for six Australian Winter Olympic Teams between 1998 and 2018 and was also in the role for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
He will also remain as vice-president of the International Olympic Committee until the Paris Olympics where he will stand down but is expected to be awarded with life membership. “We are part of an international sporting movement raising its powerful voice. We will continue to use it until this crisis is over,” Coates said.
