International Olympic Committee vice president and former Australian Olympic Committee boss John Coates has sent a serious warning to the US about the 2034 Winter Olympics. Salt Lake City was formally awarded hosting rights of the 2034 Games on Wednesday, following a vote by the IOC in Paris. It is Utah’s second Games after hosting them in 2002, and the result was a foregone conclusion given Salt Lake City was the lone contender.

chief Travis Tygart was outraged by Coates’ threat and hit back hard. “It is shocking to see the IOC itself stooping to threats in an apparent effort to silence those seeking answers to what are now known as facts,” Tygart said. “It seems more apparent than ever that WADA violated the rules and needs accountability and reform to truly be the global watchdog that clean athletes need.
