Pre-match, McEnroe cheekily remarked he’s “surprised” the 35-year-old Simon “is still out there” given how long he’s been around.
“If he wins points like that, this is gonna be a short night,” McEnroe declared after Kyrgios recorded a break in the opening game of the match. During the second set, Kyrgios had a conversation with the chair umpire after the decision-maker said during a point Simon had failed to get to a ball, but the Aussie backed up the Frenchman and said he had.Kyrgios joins compatriot Alexei Popyrin in the third round after the 20-year-old beat Spain’s Jaume Munar in straight sets this evening.
