No.1 seed Ash Barty has started her Australian Open pursuit in the best possible way with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lesia Tsurenko in 54 minutes
Miomir Kecmanovic said the Serbian players still left in the Australian Open discussed the importance of performing well in Melbourne to avenge Novak Djokovic.“It was hard to not talk about that topic since it was happening right before our matches, especially with me supposed to play him also.
“I know he is our best representative, so it is definitely a shame that he is not able to participate and represent Serbia, but we are going to give the best that we can and hopefully we can make up for it in some way.”The French Sports Ministry there would be no exemption from France’s new vaccine pass law, passed on the weekend, which could make it difficult for Djokovic to play Roland Garros. But the Ministry conceded the rule could change between now and late May, when the tournament will be held. He has no plans to offer any advice to the national champion. “I heard that there are not going to be exemptions but I also heard a few days ago that the Health Minister or someone said that there would be for tennis players,” Kecmanovic said. “I don’t know what is going to happen, but he, for sure, has achieved so much already and done so much for everybody and I am sure he is going to make the best decision for him and not take advice from a kid.”Ashleigh Barty said winning Wimbledon was a dream but she was delighted to be back on Rod Laver Arena. “This is beautiful. I have said it a few times, but it has felt like an eternity since I have been back on this beautiful court,” said the world No.1. “I felt like it was nice and clean. I did a good job adjusting to the wind. It was pretty windy out here. Overall, I felt like I was able to find my forehand. I was able to control the court with my forehand.” The Australian is looking forward to First Nations Day on Wednesday, where she will play her second round match against qualifier Lucia Bronzetti.“I’m a very, very proud indigenous woman. I love my heritage. It’s what connects me to all of you here today. It’s what connects me to the land.”
